A friendly, unhurried course for women who want to use a computer with ease: switching on, finding files, emailing, staying safe online, and using AI helpers such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot for everyday jobs.

Your learning path

Course outline

Eight two-hour sessions, twice a week for four weeks. Every session is about 30 minutes of showing and 90 minutes of doing, on your own laptop or one we provide.

Part 1 · Computer basics

Sessions 1–4
1

Meet your computer

Switch on, find your way around, and stop worrying about "breaking" anything.

We cover
  • Parts of a laptop: screen, keyboard, touchpad, ports, charger
  • Starting up, signing in, shutting down, restarting
  • The desktop, Start menu, taskbar and icons
Skills
  • Click, double-click, right-click, drag and scroll
  • Typing: capital letters, backspace, Enter, space
  • Opening and closing a program

Hands-on: open Notepad, type your name and three favourite foods, then close it without saving.

Files, folders and keeping things tidy

Save your work where you can find it again.

We cover
  • What files and folders are (a steel almirah with labelled shelves)
  • File Explorer: Documents, Pictures, Downloads
  • Pen drives and copying photos from a phone
Skills
  • Create, rename, move and delete a folder
  • Copy and paste with Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V
  • Restore something from the Recycle Bin

Hands-on: make a folder called "Family Photos 2026" and move three pictures into it.

The internet and your browser

Search for anything and keep your favourite websites one click away.

We cover
  • Browser vs. website vs. search engine
  • Chrome and Edge: address bar, tabs, back and refresh
  • Useful Indian sites: DigiLocker, IRCTC, your bank's official site
Skills
  • Search well: good keywords, spotting ads
  • Bookmarks and opening a new tab
  • Downloading a PDF and finding it again

Hands-on: find a recipe for aloo posto, bookmark it, and download a printable version.

Email, WhatsApp Web and video calls

Stay in touch with family and handle official mail with confidence.

We cover
  • Gmail: inbox, compose, reply, attachments
  • WhatsApp Web on the laptop
  • Joining a Google Meet or Zoom call
Skills
  • Attach a photo or document to an email
  • Use the microphone and camera buttons, and mute yourself
  • Share a link in a message

Hands-on: email your classmate a photo with a two-line message, then join a group video call.

Part 2 · Safety and AI tools

Sessions 5–8
5

Staying safe online

Recognise scams before they reach your money or your data.

We cover
  • Strong passwords and passphrases
  • OTP, UPI and "KYC update" frauds, and fake delivery messages
  • Phishing emails and look-alike websites
Skills
  • Turn on 2-step verification in Gmail
  • Check a link before clicking
  • Report fraud: call 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in

Hands-on: "Scam or genuine?" A card game with 12 real-looking messages.

Meet your AI helper

Understand what AI chat tools are, and have your first conversation.

We cover
  • What AI can and cannot do, and why it sometimes gets things wrong
  • ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Claude and Meta AI in WhatsApp
  • Typing and speaking to AI (voice input)
Skills
  • Write a clear prompt with the 4-part recipe
  • Ask follow-up questions to improve an answer
  • Ask for answers in Bengali or Hindi

Hands-on: ask AI to plan a 3-day trip to Darjeeling on a set budget, then change one detail.

AI for everyday life

Use AI to save time at home, with family, and for your health questions (carefully).

We cover
  • Letters, invitations, greetings and complaint emails
  • Translating and explaining documents in simple words
  • Google Lens: point your camera to identify, translate or copy text
Skills
  • Weekly meal plans and shopping lists
  • Help with grandchildren's homework, as a guide rather than doing it for them
  • Checking AI answers against a trusted source

Hands-on: photograph a medicine leaflet, have AI explain it simply, then note what to confirm with your doctor.

8

AI for work, hobbies and side income

Put everything together on a real project you care about.

We cover
  • Copilot in Word and AI drafting in Gmail
  • Canva with Magic tools for posters and Instagram posts
  • Writing product descriptions for a small home business
Skills
  • Create a simple résumé or bio
  • Design a poster and save it as a PDF
  • Keep private details out of AI chats

Capstone: design a poster for a home business, a club event or a family occasion, and present it to the class. Certificates are given out after the presentations.
